Here. I started my own post so as not to get my ***** reamed, as seen on Deliverance. LOL.
Anyhoo, I'm running 5200 rpms WOT at 36 mph. In the thread I hijacked, after my reaming I was told to put a higher pitch prop on. That will raise my speed a bit, but will my holeshot still be good? I'm looking to do some wakeboarding/skiing this year and it's on a Bayliner 1952 (not the lightest boat but not really heavy). I'm not sure what pitch is on now, I'm going to go see if I can read any of the numbers on it.
Thanks for any input.

your max operating range is 4200-4600 and your gear ratio is 1.98:1.. you could go to the mercury website and use the prop selector to get close. but i would definatly try to get the revs down a little.i had a friend with close to the same setup, but his was one of the walk aroud cuddys, he had a 21 pitch and it seemed fine out the hole and rpms werent too high

4200-4600 is right.....
What size are you running now?.....
You need to go up in pitch by two, IE if you have a 17 pitch, you will need to go to 19.....
If you have a 19 you will need to go to 21 @ the same diameter.....
From the sound of it you may need to go upa bit in diameter & up 2 in pitch.....
Post up your prop size....
Btw, you can run all day long on the prop you have, but do not exceed the 4600 WOT.....;)
You should also verify the accuracy of your tach.....:)

OK... so I spent a good part of the day out on the water today and since I adjusted the fuel mixture screw to where it should be, I have better starts and it's only WOT taching around 4600. That's not too bad. Top speed is down to 32 but at least I'm not over-winding it.
I tried to find pitch or size on my prop but there's nothing legible anywhere. I'm going to have to wing it, I suppose. Maybe I can take the prop into a shop and eyeball it up. Looks like I can fit a larger one on, guess I'll just have to take a shot and see where a new one puts me. Thanks for your responses..

Hello

Sounds like your close but man at 4600 RPM I would think you could go faster, maby not..... Your pitch may be right but Id play with the other prop you said you have to see what happens.....If not go back to the original that worked and as posted above go to a bigger diameter.
I had a 14 X 19 SS 4 blade prop that my previous owner had on the boat....I pulled it and put on a 3 blade 15 3/8 X 21 aluminum and Im getting the speed he said he was hitting with the SS VENGENCE 19p he was getting before he destroyed it :)

I had a 84 3.0 on a 19 foot open bow wellcraft and it did 45 tops.

I have a 93 BAYLINER 2755 cruser with 7.4 and it does 45

I have an 07 BAYLINER 185 w/ 4.3 and it will do 55~56MPH at 4600RPM

OK yea, you have a 3.0.......Are you really trimming that drive as much as you can? I really have to think you could get a little more speed at that high RPM.... I do think your close but not being familure with that specfic year and model boat it may be maxed.
