'94 Mercury 175 XRI EFI - no water after impeller replacement

pump was my main concern since that's what I replaced. impeller, upper housing, base plate and gaskets. manual calls for 50 in lb on the nuts and screw but that seems tight. As I mentioned, the shaft is hard to turn by hand at that torque. Just a thought.

donno?..seems a tad much?.. wasn't a big user of a torque wrench onna pump.. never a problem and have a many of 'em installed over many years (jus on my junk)... jmo..

I disconnected the gauge and let the water squirt outta that tap and it was finally much stronger so I reconnected it and it's showing around 10 psi which for idle is a bit much compared to what it had been reading at idle before the impeller replacement. The needle didn't bounce around as much after I put it back on.

I'm definitely seeing the benefit of getting it to the lake for further testing. I can see how the muffs could be a source of water and air leaks. I've been reluctant to get to the lake because the closest one is an hour away. I guess that's just what we'll have to do though.

would be helpful to know what the water PSI should be at idle. Manual shows it should be 12 PSI at 5500 rpm but nothing about idle.

Idle pressure should be about 1-3 lbs minimum, but after a new impeller it can be significantly higher until it wears in after a trip or two.

Where is your pressure gauge hose plumbed into your on the motor? I have seen people plumb it into the lines after the thermostats which would cause it only to register after they open. Maybe a picture of the motor?
