Problem ? Recently purchased a 1994 regal rush with a Mercury 90hp jet engine and after running it for a while it doesn?t start back up after sitting for more than 5 minutes.

What I?ve tried ? The first time it happened I think I might have flooded it after it didn?t start and after a couple cranks the starter went out. I replaced the starter and it cranks smooth. I took it back out on the water and it ran perfectly like the last time, and I even shut it down for a minute to see if it would start up again. It started so we ran around for another 20 minutes before I shut it down again. Unfortunately after about 10-15 minutes when I tried to start it again it wouldn?t fire. I definitely didn?t flood it by priming, or choking it while initially trying to start it. It turns over, but it won?t start. When I tried to start it the next day it still wouldn?t work. The only things I can think of is that either A) it?s not getting any fuel, which doesn?t seem right because when it?s running it works just fine, B) it?s getting too much fuel and flooding, but that doesn?t seem right because it would be able to start after sitting for a short time, or C) after it gets turned off it somehow gets an air pocket in the fuel line and cuts off fuel flow, this makes a little more sense to me just because after time an air bubble will find its way out. I, not being a mechanic, don?t know if getting air in the fuel line would even make that big of a deal. The next things I will try this week is check the spark plugs, fuel filter, and fuel pump. Does anyone know what the first thing I should look for or know what the problem may be? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 94 regal rush won't re-start after running for a while

Those 90hp jet motors (Force) were notorious for having bad stators and powerpacks. There is a wire for the rev limiter on the powerpack you can disconnect that usually is the faliure on the powerpack. There are two colors of stators for those but I cannot remember what they were or which one was the good one. If you get it running by disconnecting the rev limiter wire do not run it that way. It could overrev the motor and the no start problem could be alot worse.

I am unclear how the rev limiter wire would only malfuntion after the engine has been running, then turned off. Would it prevent fuel from entering the carbs all together? I would think that if the primer ball is pumped solid and fuel is getting into the carbs it would fire up. Maybe that logic is incorrect. Thanks for the response. I will definitely look into it if replacing the spark plugs doesn't work. It's just weird how the engine cranks. It sounds like it's not getting any fuel. And why it starts after it's been sitting for a few days, but not after it's been running is extrememly frustrating.

The rev limiter circuit is in the powerpack and cuts the ignition when it sees too high of an rpm. I belive its the black/green wire but its been a few years. It does nothing to the fuel. You might hit up the guys in the Force forum. I bet they would have the wire color for you and more info on the stator.
