I recently purchased this boat and it's my first. (Took a while to convince my wife) I am trying to troubleshoot and track down my issue. The boat fires right up and idels great. I give it up to about 1/2 throttle and it runs fine. When I try to give it full throttle it bogs down and/or stalls. I've been reading these posts and it seems like the most common possible issues are the carbs or a fuel issue. I wanted to know the easiest way to get the gas out (There is a screen to keep my from syphoning it off) Also, I've seen where you can spray carb cleaner directly into the carb without taking it apart. I thought I might try that. There is a hose that comes off each card, would I just remove and spray directly into there? Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. A shop manual would be great if anyone had one.

Re: 94 Sea Rayder F14

i am new to this site and just purchased a 1994 sea rayder f14 as well. mine wasn't running when I bought it and that's why I got it so cheap or so I thought anyways lol. I have been fighting a similar issue as yours and posted some questions about oil inj timing since the book I bought which is a merc marine service manual which was published 1993 doesn't include the oil inj'd 90 hp motor of mine. I just took the carbs off and cleaned then but upon inspection after I pulled them off I blew into the inlet hoses to see if I had a needle that wasn't seating because the bogging even knowing that a choke half on can cause this, still sounds like a cyl or two missing in my ear. I couldn't feel any air getting through the needles in the carbs to just to be sure I hooked a fuel can too them and set it up in the air 6 foot on a ladder and the #1 carb just ran fuel all over the place before I could get the line shut off. the other two were fine but #1 is on the top so when It floods. the yellow vent hoses that do need to be clean and clear through the t and elbow fittings, it floods out the #2 carb and if enough then #3 now mine would dies once and a while after you backed off it from full throttle but wouldn't get up to speed or plane out quick. I mean it took 1/4 mile to plane out and you really had to ease into the throttle. I hope this takes care of my issues but now when sitting in the docks idling for 10 min's the over heat buzzer came on till I back'd it up 6 feet then it went off so I also posted a question asking if anyone could tell me where the cooling impellor is located ? I haven't had a reply yet and did buy a new one, with wear plate and gaskets, off I boats here but my book doesn't show me a cooling impellor.

The sportjets do not have a water pump impeller like a outboard. They get water from the drive impeller. There is a hole in the wear ring where the water is pumped through the hose down on the bottom of the exhaust plate and into the engine through the exhaust manifold.

Re: 94 Sea Rayder F14

ok, thanks! that does makes sense and I couldn't find it in the merc manual. so these were not meant to idle for 10 to 15 min's in the lake then? that does make sense why it cooled down so fast and I mean I backed up 6 feet and put it in forward and the buzzer went out. I thought there was an impellor for cooling so I called the tech line for Iboats and he looked up the part he must have looked up an out board then and sold me the part. I figured if it had been sitting 2 years those rubber impellors do dry rot.

Re: 94 Sea Rayder F14

So my issue seems to have gotten worse. I cleaned out the cards and at the suggestions of other forums, I cleared out the gas and put 1 Gallon of gas with some engine carb treatment in there and let it run till it was out of gas. Which seemed to be working. As it was running out it was smoking heavier and then stalled. An alarms was beeping like so I cut the power and poured in more gas. But now when I go to start it I get nothing. No crank, spark nothing. I tried to jump the solenoid and the same thing happens. Nothing. Could running out of gas have fried the solenoid or the starter? PLEASE HELP!!!

Running out of gas would not hurt the solenoid or the starter. You keep getting an overheating alarm? Can you turn the engine by hand? Put a socket on the flywheel nut on top of the engine and see if it will turn. Steve.

I ended up taking it to a marina and having them take a look. And actually, the soldenoid did go bad. And I also need to have the carbs rebuilt.

Can anyone tell me what carb rebuild kit I would need? I am having trouble finding it. Thanks in advance.

I don't believe there is a kit available anymore but boat.net has all the pieces you'll need.

I also have just bought a 1994 sea ray sea rayder sport jet 90
and I am in the middle of rebuilding the engine as we speak
They are really nice little boats and with the new power head it should be a blast

Hey I also have one of these boats and I'm stuck. It's simular to the other questions. I bought the boat this year, put it on the water and got 2 1/2 great days out of it. on the 3rd day towards the end of the day, it stopped accelerating. I can drive it at a "no wake" spead but when i throw it down to get it going, it sounds like it wants to go, but it doesn't go any faster. The fuel gauge starts to go crazy. Starts up fine, idles fine, and runs fine at "no wake" speed. Any suggestions as i would like to be able to use it again. Could it be something simple? I'm not very handy when it comes to engines, but can do somethings. Thanks in advance....

Just got the power head back from the machine shop
bored 20 over and the head shaved 006 thousands
new wiseco pistons polished crank and rods
waiting on the gasket set to show up so I can reassemble
and start the break in process
eliminated the oil injection and I will pre mix as the crank and rods
showed sings of poor oiling

If it was my boat the first thing I would do is run a compreshion check
if all checked out good I would check the timing
if that is all good then i would go into the carbs for a goog cleaning
let us know what you find

These sport jet 90's are NOTORIOUS for having electrical ignition issues. Mine had a problem similar to yours. It took a while and some extensive troubleshooting to sort it all out, but it made me a better man for hanging in there and figuring it all out. It sounds to me like you may have lost spark on one cylinder. Check to see if you in fact have a good spark on all 3. If you do, it could be fuel related. As previously mentioned, it's a good idea to start with a compression check, then follow with spark check. Let us know what's going on and maybe we can walk you through it.

I would say carb issue. Pull it out and inspect all filters and jets.

Re: 94 Sea Rayder F14

i have good comp and i am getting spark on all 3 cyl's but couldn't get over 4k rpm or 20 mph until i replaced the stock spark plugs with reg gapped ones then i could only go 25 mph. so i started checking electronics. my motor has been converted to cdi ignition. the stator failed all tests but every thing else is fine. i pulled the fly wheel and i have a red stator and two broken magnets. does anyone know if a place can fix these flywheels or where to get a new flywheel for cdi or compatable?
