In-line 3 cyl. Merc seazed two times while
going full throttle (4500 RPM) three seasons
ago. Felt like I hit an anchor rope when it happened. Water temp was 50 degrees and she loves
50 degree water temp.
Still runs good but have ticky, ticky in top
cylinder (by my stethascope).
Took her to the Merc. doctor when it happened
and was told quite correctly that you can't
just replace a single cylinder cause an outboard
don't work that way.
Here's the question- I have run this motor under
3000 RPM for two seasons. This year I'm running
her up to 4000 and motor sounds fine at high RPM. But still ticky, ticky from 1000-2000 RPM.
What's best in the long run because I hear a
3-cyl. Merc is a keeper, and I surely don't want to mess up a good thing.
P.S. can I get a little help on '97 Mariner 9.9 HP - four stroke a couple threads earlier.
I'd like to stick up for our American Merc's
but both these motors have been babied since
new and I'm a little pssssssssd
Thanks,,
