Ayuh,.... Ya mean on the intake manifold,..??

That's where the exhaust cross-over is, it heats the fuel charge under the carb,....
They always rust there from the extra heat,....

Ok thanks! And thank for posting in the winterization forums regarding the anti freeze issue. I understand that it works, but adding it with the ear muffs and depending on the thermostat to determine how much gets into the block, seems like the wrong way to learn how to winterize. Up here in canada in gets cold in the winters! Haha!
However its hard to find "how to's" on the water draining/ blowing the lines, process on the older 5.7's. Seems every video is anti freeze through the muffs. Which after reading, seems very very risky, its always best to be 100 percent sure. Motors are expensive,

Would you have a link to a step by step " no anti freeze" winterization process?

Sorry if im asking too much, one day ill be able to give back on here! Haha!
Thanks
Cory

Ayuh,..... Right Here,....

ALL winterizations start with the same1st step,.....
Step #1,...
Locate, 'n remove All the drain plugs, block, manifolds, P/S cooler, fuel cooler, whatevers there,....
Poke, 'n prod the holes with a nail or screw to knock loose all the crud build up, to let the water out,...

After that, you can store Dry, like I do, or put the antifreeze into it, if ya care too,...

If ya winterize, Without drainin' 1st,.... expect to buy a new motor at some point, probably sooner than normally necessary,....

Nope i believe dry storage is the right way without a doubt. Not even 4 mts ago i had thought it was the best way thanks to social media and you tube videos people post.
Very valuable insight you fella's give on here.
Many thanks

I take all the big hoses off to. The impeller pump hoses and water pump hoses have a lot of water in them.

Thanks brother! Ive read that too. I read and printed donS's winterization guide. I need to pull up the manual from his link on there too.
The only thing i have left to buy is an engine alignment bar/tool.
Never take off my drive before but seen video's. Havent seen torque specs for the drive mounting bolts.

Im going to order all new b-3 seals ad a new owner, id like to do them that way i have a record of when the last time they where done.

Now, if i wanted to store my drive indoors, would i just make a cover plate, say, out of thick piece of poly and bolt er on to cover the hole?

Torque to 50 ft lb, or as most do it, 5/8 socket, 12 inch extension, 3/8 ratchet, set elbow and tighten.

It's always good to store drive in full down position, if removing I would put a plastic bag over the boats transom assembly to keep rain out. If you have trouble with rodents (squirrels, mice, rats, chipmunks) then maybe get a 1/4 plywood to put over hole before putting bag on it. The drive will be fine indoors anyway you want to store
