Re: 95 Bayliner Capri - Throttle only
My boat has trouble starting sometimes and I was told that when I start it, I should try putting it in "throttle only". I am a new boat owner and I don't know how to do that. The trottle handle has a button under the handle, you push the button in and then push the handle forward to go forward, back to go backward. How do I put it in Trottle only?
I had the same problem and didn't know what to do as I am new to boating as well. I have a 95 Bayliner Capri LS1800 with a Force 120 Outboard Motor. I thought I was doing something wrong or even worse something wrong with my boat until I read the Owner's Manual - "Starting" procedure. I'm assuming it's the same for your boat.
The manual is for Bayliner Capri O/B (outboard) 1995 and pertains to the following models:
1401 Capri Closed Bow
1600 Capri Bowrider
1604 Capri Bowrider
1700 Capri Bowrider
1800 Capri Bowrider
Send me a PM with your email address and I'll forward you the PDF - I suggest reading thru it, some pretty good info ~~OR~~ Anyone with a Bayliner can call 360-403-1289 to request manuals. NOTE: This is for the Bayliner manual. You'll need to contact the motor manufacture for the motor manual or obtain elsewhere
With the Throttle Handle in NUETRAL - Push in the Throttle Only Button (Located on the base/swivel point as Suburban99 stated), while holding that button - push the throttle handle all the way forward, then 1/4 way back. You might need to play with how much the throttle is engaged to start the motor. Don't worry, you're in NUETRAL. Once you're fired up, move the throttle back to neutral and then back into gear to get moving.
For a cold start, you may want to choke the ignition by pushing the key in while turn right.
Hope this helps! Let us know if you need additional info and happy boating!!
