'95 Black Max 150 hp, weak stream

On my 95' Black Max I get a very weak tell tale stream. I have replaced the poppett and water pump (Wear plate etc.) the boat seems to run about 3/4 the way up the temp scale after a WOT run, but my temp guage does not show actual temprature. The water from the tell tale steams because it is hot. I tested the thermostats, and they seem to be ok. Two Questions...<br />1. Is the weak tell tale stream normal on this engine?<br />2. on an unmarked temp guage (Just says C and H with some lines to show relitive temp) is 3/4 up that scale and steam from tell tale discharge water ok?

i would pull the lower unit and look for a partial<br />blockage of cooling system. tell tale should not<br />be hot. an old fashioned melt stick on the head<br />might be a good idea to check actual temp.<br />good luck,<br />M.Y.

Waterproof,<br /><br />You have one of the hottest running engines ever made (Black Max's), so keep that in mind...<br /><br />But you shouldn't have a weak tell-tail after the t-stats hae opened up. It should be very strong. It may be warm/hot however, the exact temp I'm not sure. But steam is common after full throttle conditions (mine does).<br /><br />I am confident to say that your temp readings (on the guage) sound normal... I have basically the same engine, with the same guage and at full throttle it will read 3/4+ also... Your temp sensor is measuring metal on the head, not water. So it's going to be showing hotter temps that most other outboards that measure water only.<br /><br />But if you have a weak tell-tail at higher rpms, that is a concern. At idle you should barely have any stream as the t-stats will be closed and prevent water flow out of the tail.<br />let us know...

Thanks Kclost, My stream is weak at idle, and seems to pick up some gusto as i rev the engine up. it is a new motor to me and I'm just used to my old '88 115 I-6, which had a better and cooler stream I guess. I'll stop worrying about it, and start trying to catch some fish. Thanks again.
