95 black max 150 tilt trim install

do I need to remove the motor from the boat to replace the tilt trim motor? I have been messing with it and it seems the transom brackets need to be opened up in order to remove the tilt trim unit..

You will need to remove 1 of the transom clamp sides. You can tilt up and lock the motor with the port bracket. Now find a way to support the weight of the starboard side of the motor (2X4 plus wedges under tilt tube?) and remove the starboard transom bracket from the tilt tube. Now you can remove the PTT unit.
