95 DT 200 FI ticking and couphing sputtering at low rpm?

It just started this season. Only at idle speed or slightly above. It has a slght ticking sound. And it couphs / sputters every so often.

The motor runs out fine. The plugs are all gapped correctly and I changed them last summer.

Guess I'll change / gap my plugs again. I've been told to "Clean teh Leads". But I don't know what this means.

Is there a pick up under the flywheel that I need to clean? Give me a couple things to check out or clean. Looking for ideas.
Thanks

Is the gas fresh? If not, did you treat the gas that sat all winter? The coughing/chirping noise is due to running lean which most of the time is dirty carbs. First, turn your jet screws in until lightly seated counting how many turns it takes. Then, pull them out and spray some cleaner in the jets and on the screws to clean them up. Try blowing some forced air through the jets if you can. Re-install until lightly seated then back them out to where they were when you started. If you know what the specs call for set them to the specs. If that doesn't help, break the carbs down and clean them. Good Luck.

Thank you very much for the reply. This unit is fuel injected. And the fuel is fresh. I use the boat a LOT and it rarely has enough time to let fuel get old.

Anything else I can check? When it coughs it blows back through the throttle body. Do i need to clean the fuel injection system?

when was the last time your serviced your:
1) lp fuel pumps
2) hp fuel filter

how long did the boat site off season with fuel? was it treated and left full?

you have a lean sneeze condition.

I just realized taht this forum ranks you. And you are a Senior Chief (E8). :)
The problem is that the rank shown is Master Chief. (E9) Sorry- I'm ex Navy and it stuck out. Back on topic:

I've never serviced my low pressure fuel pump. Is there a proceedural on this? Sounds like a possible culprit.

The High pressure Fuel filter.. Is this the Big filter that sits outside / beside the motor? If so I changed it last fall.

The boat was refueld in December and I started using it again in March. I did put a bit of stabil in the tank.

Can you tell me how to service the low pressure fuel pump?

Thanks

Sorry, I missed the FI on your motor description.
