Re: 95 E48ESLEO manual tilt stuck in down position
First off, what exactly do you mean by "motor angle pin"?

In answer to you question about why they freeze up, I can answer why mine froze up slowly but surely. The cable you speak of is routed around and underneath the engine drivetrain housing (I know there is a better term for it but I am brain dead at the moment on what it is) Its just long enough to get caught and pinched if not routed carefully. Mine got pinched and saltwater intruded there and over a few months killed the cable. Thats one scenario. There are others I'm sure. I always spray the ends of the cable down with Corrosion Blocker or something similar after each trip to salt water.

Getting back to your situation, with the engine fully down, you can still access the black plastic nut that fastens the cable into the housing on the lower end of said cable. Of course you can't access the clamshell fixture up top right now, but thats ok. The business end of this is the lower unit I just described.

1. Loosen the nut and push up out of the way.

2. With a thin flat bladed screwdriver or something similar, carefully pry up on the base of the fixture and you will see that it seems to be spring loaded. If you pry it up enough the engine should be able to be "lifted" by a helper while you hold the base tilted over. Same as when the cable is activated when you turn the handle up top. If this doesn't work.... then the cable assembly is probably ok and something else is frozen. Not good. Maybe the hydraulic cylinder is frozen. Not good at all. I think they are not repairable. In this case you will have to remove the engine to have the access you need. It weighs about 187 lbs, so its not too bad if you rig up a hoist.

Let me know what you find. If you need a picture or two, I can shoot one over to your email.
