J10releoe is model number. So I needed a carb because somebody messed up idle jet under the welch plug. I found one on eBay and it had all the correct numbers so I purchased it. Got it and when I pulled old carb off noticed differences in throat of new on being smaller. I then started looking at part numbers on top cover and that corresponded to a 1997 E10RELEUS. Here's pics of both. My original one is on the left. I looked on Vintageboatparts and the showed this model carb and the throat size is the same as new one.
Any thoughts as to why the throats are different dimensions? And will it work?

Thanks
James

I would bet the carb with the larger throat is a 15 hp carb. On the older models 9.9/15 motors the part #s were the same but different parts. I think it's the same with yours omc did not want people converting them easily. If this makes sense to you the model # of the motor is the part # of the carb. The only difference in the carbs is the throat.

FlyingScott, you just threw a curve at me. I know these are just detuned 15s by the spacers on the reeds if I remember right. I'm wondering if someone tried to convert it to 15hp by swapping carbs. I'm going to put the new one on and see what happens. Fingers crossed !

After further investigation, FlyingScott, you sir are correct. So I'm going to have a true 9.9 now kinda disappointed! But hey I guess I'll still be fishing just a little more time to get there!

FlyingScott here's a picture of idle nozzle. Also I was bored and started looking at part numbers between 9.9 and 15 and discovered that the reeds assembly is a different part number between the 2.

that looks useable. i have seen a lot worse that are still in use. Looks like someone tried taking it out. The tube being offset like that is normal. Were you having a running problem at all?
