Hi,

I went to local marine shop to get some spark plugs, after I told him the model of the engine, he asked me cold plug or hot plug, I have no idea, so he give me NGK BUHW-2, told me it’s hot plugs (I think the “-2” means hot plug). But I came home and look at the repair manual, it says – NGK BUHW or Champion L76V…

Can I use the hot plugs?

TIA for you knowledge

Hi,
No you can not. The gaps to wide. Get the ones mentioned in the book.
You engine will run much better on them.

Corm,

Thank you for your reply... And I am so sorry to post this on Mercury board, I should of posted it on Force...

Well the true is that I have been out on the water with those plugs twice, and it stalls every time when I put it on gear and it run so rough..

I put in the right plugs this time, but I haven't take it out yet..

I hope I didn't damage anything, what would it happen then? if I keep use those plugs?

Thanks for the info anyone.

Hi,
You did not hurt anything. It just will not run good.

There is NO difference in the heat range, the -2 is the gap.

Look at both plugs and you can see the difference in the gap.

The -2 will be fine at idle and light throttle but at WOT it may missfire, too much gap for your ignition.
