Re: 95 GMC transmission Update

okay ve never pulled one out,so i know the drive saft comes out and undo all the wires and cables, how does the shifter come off?after the shifter is off i can take a floor jack and supoort it,then undo the bolts off the motor or bell housing then it should slide back and off .is this the correct way of doing this? Thanks Bondo for your help.

Try to get a Haynes Manual.Looked at one about doing a Ford sedan heater core, and the info just about holds your hand.Very straight forward. Not like aftermarket marine manuals at all.

DHP

A Hayne's manual will be the best $20 you will spend. The transmission isn't too hard to remove without a manual but the manual does give all of the torque values for reinstallation.

To remove the shifter, remove the boot, loosen the jam nut at the base of the shifter, then unscrew the shifter.

Drain the transmission before removal. It is recommended to support the engine before removing the frame crossmember. After unhooking all of the wires, removing the slave cylinder, and unbolting the transmission it should theoretically slide out. Realistically you may have to wrestle with it a little bit to get the shifter stub to clear the hole in the floor.

You might want to rent a transmission jack to make things easier, I bought one at Harbor Freight for about $50.00 when I did mine.

Another tip when reinstalling, buy two bolts a little longer than the bellhousing to block mounting bolts. Cut the heads off and grind a slight bevel on the cut end. Thread these into the block (one on each side) and use them for locator studs to help line everthing back up without knocking your clutch disc out of line.

Re: 95 GMC transmission Update

Well i looked at the manual nothing in it for the manual trans,im going to another place to find a better manual.
More problems i cant get the nuts off the studs going into the headers off theres a spring then a nut a 9/16 socket wont fit on it but i can tap a crows foot on it,when i broke it loose the entire studs coming off,i could only loosen 2 of them, theres got be an easier way.Once i get this y pipe off the headers i dont think its going to be hard at all to get the trans out.

Unfortunately,.......

There's No Easy Button for Those...........

I've sometimes found that pulling the Whole Exhaust Manifold is the Only way out......
Ayuh,.... I Know,....... ALOT of Extra Work........

Not that it'll Help Now,.....
But,... When I reattach the Exhaust Pipe to a Manifold,......
I use Brass Nuts,...... The Stud might Rust Off,.. But you can Still Turn the Nuts Off.......

I Don't Know Why they don't do that from the Start...........

Not the Heads,.......

Just the Manifolds........

If you want to change the Heads as well,.......

Go with Vortecs,.......... There Ain't Nothing Better for a GM motor............

Your truck was born 1 year Too Early.... Vortecs came out in 96..........

Re: 95 GMC transmission Update

Why not just Reuse the Manifolds you Have,......

A New Stud Kit is only $5. or $10......And that's With Brass Nuts.......

Once they're On the Bench,......
Heat the Broken piece to RED Hot,+ Quench it with Cold Water,.......
It'll turn out with little more than Finger Pressure..................

Probably need Oxy/Ac to get it Hot enough though..........

Re: 95 GMC transmission Update

Heat the nut with a tourch. Get them red hot they will screw right off. What ever you do dont break the studs. Broken studs in the manifold are a biotch.
