What is the best way to get the throttle and shift cables undone where they enter the motor. I know it's silly but I can't figure what the trick is. Not where the cable ends but where they go from outside motor to the inside. I have a 1967 95 hp mercury 6 cylinder. Thx in advance.

Re: 95 hp throttle and shift cables

Hey Deernrams! Welcome to iboats. I would recomend you take the cowling off the engine and unbolt the two respective cables from the respective linkage they are attached to. One is the throttle and one is the shift. You will need to turn the two keys so they match their respective slots, (one on each cable) from the threaded holds just inside the powerhead case to pull them out of the engine (after you unbolt them). Hope this helps you. JR

Start by removing the nut on the throttle arm and remove the cable from it, the hold the barrel on the other end of the cable in position and pull the anchor pin and lever to the outside of the engine and turn it 1/4 of a turn, then push it back to the center of the engine to remove the pin from the barrel. then lossen the nut on cable end on the shift slide turn the bracket 1/4 turn remove the cable end from the slide, the the barrel disconnect just as the other did
