Looking like I going to be re-power my boat. It's got a 84 Suzuki DT140 on it now, but it;s getting old and tired.
I found a 95 Johnson 115 Sea Runner today and havent been able to find much info on them. are they good motors?

thanks

ray_m,
I have a '98 Johnson 150 OceanRunner so I can not give you a reveiw on your motor. All I can tell you is my motor is reliable, powerful and easy enough to work on without too much expertise. My only gripe would be fuel burn but your engine should be a little more gentle on the wallet.
My suggestion would be to purchase an OEM manual if you plan on keeping it. It was the best investment I made and has paid for itself ten-fold. If at all possible try to get an OEM copy. Ebay is a good source, but expect to pay $50+.

Not familiar with the Sea runner model. In 1995, OMC made two types of 115's. Both very different from each other. One version was the crossflow engine-had been around for 20+ years. That year they also made their new looper 115-just released for 1995. If you check your model number, it will indicate which 115 you are looking at. Based on the year of your two comparison engines, likely that both of them were not horsepower-rated on the same standard. Possible the 140 was a crankshaft-rated engine in 1984. The newer 115 was hp rated at the prop, meaning it makes more (10-12%) than 115 hp at the crank. These engines could actually be fairly close in real, comparable hp.

it looks like you are stepping down in HP....not usually a good thing. the 140 suzuki looks like it first came out in 1986....so it is prop based HP.

are you sure you are not mistakening your motors name....could it really be an Ocean Runner?

they made some Sea Drive model outboards, but I am not sure they were still making them in the 90's, they might have all been crossflows.

find out the exact model # and get back to us
