Well, I thought that I needed new control cables, but it turns out that the port-side throttle body is the issue...

It seems that the "pivot pin" that actuates or allows the ... ummm... What'cha call them... Butterfly valves/throttle valves??? to open are corroded.

I was able to get them moving a little bit by using some WD40, but still too stiff to work.

I looked at the BRP parts page, and I'm a little confused. They point to the throttle body and state it is a "carburetor assembly" (part 1) and they say that the throttle body assembly is part #2.. Seems a bit off to me, but who am I to say?

Do I need a whole new throttle body now?

I have pointed to what won't move anymore in the attached picture:

See if the butterflies are removeable from the rod. If so, you can pull the rod and clean it up. Use some penetrating oil to get it loose first, or it may be damaged. Has that motor been sitting around rusting or did someone spray it with a fire extinguisher?

The motor has been sitting for quite a while (over a year)...

Fired right up, that's for sure, but throttle is "stuck".

Hopefully, I will be able to remove the butterflies, but even if I can, I have a feeling that I'll score the cylinder that the pin rides in trying to pull it out.

Getting the pin and spring out of the bottom of the rod will be a joyous endeavor, I'm sure!

If anyone knows if the butterflies are removable or not, let me know.

I'm North of Atlanta and the boat/motors are down in Florida!

Thanks!

It would be a very bad idea to remove the throttle plates unless you are a pretty good machinist.

The screws are peened to keep them from vibrating loose and you will very likely break them trying to loosen them. If you do get them out and back, you have to repeat the peening process or they will loosen, fall out, get sucked into the engine and make a mess.

Oh well then. Looks like I'll have to get a whole new throttle body then.

Newer is better though!

How do I get a part number?

Try the penetrating oil first, then light pressure on the throttle plates. It may be that one of the throttle plates is stuck closed.

If you find you need the part, look up your motor in the parts store, then click on the number on the diagram and it will link to the part and part number.
