I have just purchased a second hand package with a 1995 40HP Johnson Outboard HJ40TLEOD. I was advised to disconnect the oil injection and mix my own outboard fuel because of oil pump failures in this model.

This i have done but now i get an alarm after about 6 - 10 mins of motor running. first i thought it may have been over heating but water pump is pushing a very good flow.

I rang a mech about the alarm and he said it was an oil alarm but said it would cost me about $100 for him to disconnect it.

what i would like is information / diagrams to help disable the oil alarm and to see if i can do it myself

I know i will have to continue to mix my own fuel but i feel safer doing it that way.

thanks in advance

on my 35, I took the entire oil tank off, and disconnected the wires that go from the float to the engine block. Taped them off, and haven't had any alarm problems.

Mix my own and forgot about it. Maybe the oil system is fine, but I actually found I wasn't burning enough oil. When I dumped the oil tank, I had some clumps of "jelly" in the oil, which I now believe was probably restricting the oil flow. I have other outboards that run premix anyway, so I always have mixed fuel around, and just find it easier to run premix.

If you still have the tank mounted and the wires hooked up, you could add some oil, so that the float is not detecting low oil. And just leave it that way.

Good luck,

FishHog

Umm sorry to be a pain but has anyone got a diagram of what wires need to be disconnected from the pump that go to the alarm >?
