Hey gang! I have my father in laws boat at my house for some repairs, and the tilt/trim is extremely slow. The motor itself sounds like it is running fine, its just not moving the motor up/down properly. I am under the assumption that the hydraulic cylinder needs to be rebuilt. Can someone tell me if I am thinking right on this? Also where is the best place to get the parts? Second, the wiring out of the motor is pretty much disentigrating...all the insulation just crumbles when you touch it. Can just the wiring into the motor be replaced or is this a need for a new motor?

Thanks!!

What is the s/n of your engine and by wiring into the motor do you mean the wire harness from the remote control or the internal harness on the engine?

you probably have a bad connection somewhere between motor and battery. Could also be a weak battery but then you would have mentioned problems with starter. If all of the wiring is shiny good then you probably need a new motor. If existing motor is 3w then you are also looking at converting to 2w. cylinder rebuild kit won't fix this problem. Rebuild the hydraulic cylinder when the shaft wiper gets old or cracked.

Will get the S/N when I get home today. Its already a 2 wire system, the wires that are degraded are the ones from the pump motor to the internal engine harness. The motor sounds like its spinning fast enough, and the motor will move, although very slowly, and usually can't get it to trim all the way up or down. The boat sat for several years with a bad engine. Last week I put a different engine on it and moved the trim from the bad engine to the good engine---this problem existed before the swap.

If it is the original 1995 2w with plastic housing then it is probably your motor. Personally, I don't like chasing my tail. I would spend $125 on a new motor and see what happens. 1995 2w motor is already running on borrowed time. Worst thing that happens with new motor is that you have one less repair in your future.

make sure your wiring is has clean connections from end to end. hot wire the trim motor straight to a good auto or lawn tractor battery (fully charged). If it lifts and lowers slowly when hotwired then 99% sure it's going to be the motor.

Thanks! Will jump it tonight and give it a try. Where's the best place to get that motor?

they should be all over ebay, amazon, ishop, google, etc. in the $110-$130 range without wiring harness. With harness they are about $30 more.
