Motor is a 95 Mercury EFI 175. Problem happens right after start up. It studders/clunks for a few seconds after I put it in gear. It idles fine in neutral. Sounds kinda like a clunking sound or the prop is hitting something? But when it reaches 2k and above rpm it smooths out? It just started doing this recently. It does it on every start up and after it's put in gear both foward and reverse. I have recently changed the plugs and they looked ok, a little black and some oil. Thanks in advance!

Check for spark on all the cylinders.. Use a spark gap tester or a timing light...

Let us know...

Have spark on all cylinders. I'm starting to think the prop is spinning on the hub and not catching.

Make a mark on the inner and outer hub of the prop. Take it out for a spin if the marks don't line up like you marked them, you know you have a spun inner hub...

Finally gave up and took it in for service. It was a simple fix. Merc tech ajusted the shift cable and it no longer cluncks when in gear. I guess the cable was just starting to strech. Took the boat out and it runs like new again. :)
