95 OMC 302 thermostat

Hello,
My 1995 5.0FL (OMC-Ford) was originally raw water cooled and a SJE half closed cooling system was added. There was a 160 degree thermostat (high performance?) in it when I bought it. Is this the correct thermostat? The previous owner said it would run at about 180 degrees on the gauge. (But I don't believe much of what the previous owner told me anymore!)

Any opinion regarding the quality of "Mr. Gasket" thermostats?

160? is the proper thermostat for a closed cooled engine. Yes, the previous owner is correct, and they will run 175? to 180? when underload.
