Re: 96 115 johnson L.U.
Hello,
I would just like to report on my on going saga of the lower unit gear problem. In no other machine sector (auto, bike, small engine) have I come across such confusion/misinformation/hearsay as I have in the (I'll say Johnson) marine industry.I have spent hours researching compatible lower units, gear sets (OEM+after market, even used),and its incredible the varying opinions of so called experts, saying should fit,I don't think so,and I've heard you can,I don't think you can,eg. I wouldn't mix after market gears with OEM gears, others say,I don't see why not. Not,yes this will fit,or,no you can't do that.I finaly found some OEM gears in a small shop 200 miles from me (lucky), OMC were back-ordered,with no eta date, and by the looks of it this is a very common gearset covering from 1978-2001,85-140hp.Has bombardier left us older johnrude owners hanging?Should I swap it for a merc/yamaha?
Thanks...........wondering
