so I went to get the boat ready for some spring walleyes and when I hit the start button it just clicks. If I cross the wires on the solenoid? it will turn over. I listened for the click and it is in the starboard side of the motor while the what i think is the solenoid is on the other side, port. The clicking seems to be coming from a black thing about the size of a film canister. The local marine dealers room collapsed and Im going fishing saturday. Plus I know absolutely nothing about outboards. Any ideas guys? Should I dig into it?

Follow both + and - cables from the battery. Disconnect and carefully clean every connection. . . ground cable to engine block is the worst offender, but check the cables for weak spots, too.

Let us know what happens.

checked all the wiring, there is no corrosion, and everything is grounded well. I now know what part is clicking. Where can I find a schematic for this motor so I know what part it is? The part has two wires going into the front and is about the size of a film canister, the back looks to have some fuel? lines going out of it. fuel pump?

the film canister is your Primer Solenoid. it is activated when you press in on the key. it replaced the choke, it shoots fuel directly into the intake manifold, to assist in cold starts.

you must have a fully charged battery, clean connections at battery, ground on motor, both stater solenoid connections and the stater connection.

also cables get nicked, and corrode from inside out, check you cables completely.

I am getting power to the selenoid (when I jump the connections it will turn over easily).
