96 bravo 3 pulled drive to lube u joint

i pulled drive to lube u joint and do an inspection 1st time doing myself. after completion I have no neutral or reverse
what did i miss I had no issues before I took it apart Thank for any help Jim

A Bravo must be in neutral to remove it , when its being removed it will shift into F gear as you pull the drive rearward until the latch disengages, for reinstall you catch the end of the cable in the capture latch and push the drive on.

At least you still have forward, so be happy about that :)

My guess is that you did not get the shift linkage coupler/latch within the outdrive engaged to the end of the shift cable before you shoved the drive into the bell housing. You got to stop about 1" out and open the jaws of the linkage coupler so it can 'eat' the end of the shift cable, then make sure it stays that way as you shove the outdrive 'home'.

yes i had to pull the latch forward so the cable could latch into it thank you
