HE already did, disconnecting the main controler harness eliminates the lanyard cutoff from the circuit.

Re: 96 Evinrude v6 - will not cold start

the old intake manifold gaskets were made of a rubbery type material....The slot in which the solenoid injected the fuel through was pressed closed because of swelling of the gasket.
The new gaskets are made of a more cardboard type material and much stiffer..keeping the slot open for the fuel to pass through.
I also believe that the old VRO pump was failing...and have ordered the new pump Part #5007422 KIT AY, F PUMP&LMTR.
I also ordered a new throttle cable. I have already changed out the intake manifold gaskets and am waiting for the new pump and cable to arrive. Hopefully this will completely solve my problems. To all who posted Thanks for all of your valuable input.:D:D

Btw a timing light will show quickstart advancing the timing .
As the engine starts to run the quickstart shuts off and timing retards.
But thats not your problem, I'm certain you just had the dry starts.
They need to be "juicy" to fire when cold.

Rgr That Jones, I would appreciate any input on just how to check the timing.
I read somewhere that you can remove all the plgs and attach a spark tester to the #1 plug wire and attach timing light and check it while just turning it over and subtract 2 degrees. I didnt know if this was true...also what RPM should I check my timing??
I will check to see if the quick start is working or not once the pump comes in.

Thanks again Sparkie

Re: 96 Evinrude v6 - will not cold start

Ok fellas, I just got in my new fuel pump. part # 5007422..I also replaced my intake manifold gaskets as previously posted. Now my engine will cold start and runs great...will do a test run out on the river tomorrow. I know my fuel pump was bad..and I also believe that my old intake manifold gaskets were blocking the solenoid injected fuel, because of gasket swelling.
Thanks again for all of your help
