I have a 1996 force/gamefisher 15 hp. I just got the motor this past spring from my uncle. The motor had less than an hour on it and was beautiful shape. This last season i followed the break in process and its good to go. instead of winterizing i figured id store the motor in my heated basement. I ran it out of gas with some sta-bil additive in the gas and changed the lower unit oil. I noticed it being dusty from sitting there and i am going to clean it off and i opened the cowling and there is a lot of white deposits on all the black metal parts inside there. Im not sure what that is but i can wipe it off and im thinking about cleaning it all off and spraying the whole thing down with wd-40 is that a bad idea or what?? this motor runns verry well i havent ever had to pull it 2 times to start i just want it to look as good as i can keep it. WD-40 a bad thing or not??

WD40 is ideal for that purpose. It's not the best lubricant in the world, or the best penetrant. But it's GREAT at "spraying the whole thing down". It deposits a thin film of anti-corrosion compounds that seal out air and moisture. It will keep that motor looking great.
A heated basement is not an ideal long-term storage area. Cold actually slows corrosion & oxidation (rust). The stabil and running it out of gas was OK, but next year buy a can of aerosol "fogging oil" and follow the directions. Basically, it coats the cylinder walls and the piston rings and the internal bearings & shafts with oil. That keeps them from corroding during storage. One season won't make a big difference, but if you want to keep your outboard for a lifetime be sure to winterize it properly any time it's going to be stored for more than a couple months. The internal needle bearings and other precision parts will last and last as long as they're coated in oil.

t-9 by Boeing is 10 times better
wd-40 and silicon hoses are bad, it will make them crack over time
