I have a 96 Johnson 112 v4 2 stroke outboard that bogs down when giving throttle. I found if I put the motor in netural and increase my RPMs and shift it back into gear it will run without bogging out.
yesterday the motor gave me a hard time starting at the dock and once I got it going and headed out the motor seemed to run like it was only working in 2 cylinders.

Also when coming back into at low speeds 2-3 mph the motor wanted to stall out.

Here is what I have done so far to rule out the common issues.

compression check 130 each
Carbs: removed cleaned and cleaned all lines
Fuel tank dumped and re fueled with new gas, ethanol treatment and some seafoam.
Fuel primer kit replaced
I Squeezed the bulb when the motor was bogging down but it did nothing.
new plugs and wires

Do you think it could be the coils?

Any ideas?

Perform an open air gap spark check with appropriate tester.

Question: when you cleaned the carbs how many jets (orifices) did you remove and clean and reinstall from each bowl?
Hint: answer should be 4 from each bowl, if not revisit carbs after passing spark test.

I just checked the coils and they are all about 240 ohms and all the cylinders are receiving spark.

Does spark jump a gap of 7/16" on all leads , yes or no ?-------Did you confirm that the 4 high speed jets ( orifice plug ) found in the carburetor bowls are clean ?----If float bowls are plastic did you check them for warpage ?---Mixing gas and oil at 50:1 ?----Water pump impeller replaced ?

So I purchase the boat at the end of last year and the previous owner had stated that the motor bogs down once in awhile but they were not sure what was causing the issue. All the coils read about 240 and yes I checked and cleaned all for jets in each of the carburetors. I even went to the extent of dumping the fuel in refueling with a 50 to 1 ratio as well as ethanol treatment in a little bit of seafoam.

In all honesty I have not checked but I did use a plug tester and it looks like they were all getting Spark. Should I get one of those to measure the distance?

Unfortunately none of the three auto parts stores near me carry these so I had to order it. I will definitely keep you posted with the results on Thursday. Thank you for your help.
