My 200 Venom shifts into gear fine and prop turns at low rpms, but when you open the throttle its like a clutch is slipping. Replaced prop with new one and does same thing. Have read on this site could be several different things, coupler or cavitation. Boat is currently at dealer for him to look at. He says gears are fine (he can't spin prop while in gear). What is next step ? Dyno ??

Ends up prop shaft was bent. Replaced and works as good as new.

Something sounds fishy to me.I can't for the life of me see how a bent prop shaft would cause the slippage that you describe.Did you recently encounter an underwater obstruction?Shaking ,yeh.Stripped splines or spun hub would cause slippage, but seems to me that a bent proshaft would simply cause the operator to throttle back because of excessive vibration.Oh well,it works now.

Hi Bogie

Have to agree to ob on this one. Can you remember king-hitting any underwater obstructions?, any wild vibrations afterwards, smashed prop?- 200hp shafts are rock solid.
it MAY be possible the mech found something cheaper (clutch?) but charged you for a shaft, clutch and other related parts to boot.
I'm only saying this because I work in the automotive industry and see these shenanigans all the time. The symptoms just dont seem to match the repairs in your case- I'd expect a ton of vibration/smashed prop with a bent shaft but no slippage after prob replacement. I'd ask to see the old parts- shafts arent cheap, this must have cost you some.
Hey, just my 2cents
Glad to hear its going at least

Nilsson
