I am posting this for a friend. The motor runs fine on idle and will get the boat out of the hole, after about 300-400 yards it will just die. No spit or spudder it just dies like you turn off the key. Very hard to start again and will do the same. The bulb holds stong and has no slack in it and has also been replaced.

What could be the cause?

Sounds like you're describing an electrical problem. Could be heat related...try running with the cowling off.
What happens if you start it on the muffs and let it idle?

If you could check for spark after it dies that'd be helpful.

Try it on the muffs and point a hair dryer at the powerpack. See if it dies....
