Fresh powerhead, new powerpack, good comp.,light boat, worked 26P prop, engine at 2" below pad -- can only get 5200 RPM's. Am pulling my hair out trying to figure what's wrong. Can timing be the problem? Coils?

Thanks

Are you sure the carbs are synched & opening all the way? I recently had an issue w/ that.
Timing is interrelated & should be set properly.
I'll let a more experienced person tell you how.
The method described to me on this forum seemed to work well.

Whas the top timing set at?

Is this the same height it was set at before? I'm sure the engine isnt 2" below the pad -- we think you mean propshaft.

Make sure the bottom carb on each side is opening all the way. (Sync & link as Ed mentioned.) Those bottom ones can be real tricky.

Thanks Dhadley. I'll have the high speed timing checked. It's scarey to think of running that outboard at WOT while backed into the water on the trailor even though it's heavily strapped down. Ever had a problem doing that? Is it OK on the transom/jack plate or should I brace it with the transom saver?
