I have been working on my '97 25E Merc outboard and pulled the flywheel off my '02 20 Jet and found that there are 4 magnets instead of 2. The Stator was of a different design too. They both have the same leads coming out (Brown-Yellow trace and Brown-white trace) Would the '02 system work on the '97? I have a spare '02 system. Cheers, Dave

Are you asking if you could swap the flywheel and stator from one motor to the other, well yes if having a perfect fit on the coil plate. The issue is both systems needs to produce the same amount of electricity for the CDI to work properly...

The 97 has a switchbox/coils and the 02 has CDM modules. Yes you could swap it if you have all the 02 ignition system.

Thanks for that. Good info. I have a complete spare set, so will change if need be. Cheers, Dave

My troubleshooting skills need some work. On a whim I tried adjusting the mixture screw and the 'miss' moved to the bottom cylinder. Turned it all the way in to stall, then all the way out to stall. Adjusted to happy place. Took it out on the river yesterday, and while it wasn't great, it ran ran smoothly on both cylinders. Thanks for the help! Cheers, Dave
