Been a while since I've been on this forum. Glad you are all still here:)

Went fishing last week. Went through motor as usual. Cleaned carbs, link and sync. changed plugs. changed foot lube...
But was very hard to start when I tested on new gas. Getting good spark from both plugs. Had to be fuel right? Never did smell gas by the way.

I ended up choking the carbs down by hand to get gas flowing. Had to repeat that process first start on water. Then hard to get running over 3200rpm. put throtlte arm at 100% until rpms got over 5000. repeated twice and ran good through a night of catfishing. Morning came and had to repeat the whole process again. Once it runs it is great. The fuel pump diaphragm looked good and the filters are clean. I am at a loss to explain this one?

Any suggestions?

Have you tried pumping the bulb to see if that helps when its running?
Hows the plugs looking?
When you try starting it hold a dollar bill in front of the carb and check its getting good consistent vacuum

I had a similar issue with same year motor. Red Primer Solenoid Valve had a crack in it and leaking fuel. Maybe worth a look?

thanks for the replies. just cleaned carbs, flushed foot fluid, changed plugs...spring tune up to be accurate. bulb stays hard all night once primed. have very good consistent vacuum. I will check the primer sol valve next. hope thats it. If not I can use it as is for this year, not making many trips to fish. and take to shop next spring, (saving money to take honey on a cruise). found a local reasonable and thurough repairman. good friend sang high praises.
