97 Johnson 15hp not drawing fuel

HI

I was just given a 97 Johnson 15hp, this motor was brand new and the previous owner overheated it in shallow water and muck after only 2 uses

it draws no fuel, is it possible that something warped like reed vales or something from the heat

I thought Id post here for known things I may look before before I begin tearing into it

You are one lucky fellow. I would check your compression ( pre-oil the cylinders as they are probably as dry as it gets) and see if your head is leaking compression. If yes change the head gasket. Maybe then it will draw fuel from the carb. It is very possible you needle is stuck and I would also suggest a carb. cleaning and a kit. I hope the previous owner flushed the water passages prior to staring it but I would hold off on spending much cash until you know the compression is good. Be careful regarding the water pump as it may not be pumping at all. Best of luck, if all goes well you've got yourself a brand new (never mind the year) engine there. Rick.
