Hello, I have recently picked up a Mercury 25, '97 according to seller. Serial# is 06168 756 read from the small plate on the motor itself. When I punch in this # at a parts site it comes up as a 3.3 horse model??? I have tried a couple variations, and different ways of entering the # but still the same. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I also need a new prop, the number on the prop is 19640A 40P13
Thank you.

That is not the serial number. Look for a plate on the transom mount or it may be stamped in a welch plug on the motor.

Ok, thank you. I did notice a number stamped on a plug, I'll go and take a look again for the right number.

Although I don't like the fact that I bought a boat and motor and were told both were '97 vintage. Now I see the motor is not. Thank you.

Don't get too bent out of shape. The motor was built in '95 but motors can sit around on dealer shelves for years before they are sold. It likely was sold in '97 with the boat to the original owner.

Yes, that's right. I didn't think of that. I didn't get too bent out of shape about it though. I didn't call the guy up or anything like that. I'm happy with it. I posted some pics of the boat I bought in another thread. Thanks.
