Guys my engine up tilt has been acting up lately and not tilting up sometimes but always tilting back down.

Finally it has stopped tilting up all together.

I tried both the switch on the throttle and on the engine itself and neither work going up.

Any ideas on what the problem could be and is this a common issue?

Thank you!

hey mine did same thing when i first got it first make sure that the fluid is full no fluid no tilt u can use any good grade transmission fluid for the job. as for tilting back down that could be that your seals have gone bad and are leaking would explain lack of fluid for not going up. p.s. make sure your not cranking the trim down on the transom saver when not used this puts excessive pressure on trim system and can lead to prematurely rebuilding it.hope this helps

Okay thanks I will check the fluid level!

Do you mean to make sure to put the lock on the engine rather than just tilting it up and letting gravity pull it down?

I have a jackplate so the engine is not bolted to the transom

Thanks again!

is your problem with the trim or the jackplate? And i was saying on the transom saver the pole between the lower unit of your motor to the trailer. just trim down till it rest on the transom saver and not to trimm down real tight

I had the same prob with my 150 black max.Theres 2 solonoids that are for the tilt,1 up and 1 down.there cheap.

On yours they should be right on the back of the motor.

The problem is with the trim. Oh I understand, you mean when I'm driving the boat not to force it to trim way way down. Thanks!

Yes I have found those and I swapped them and still have the problem. Is there anything else it can be? Is there a motor that can be bad if it goes down but not up?

What he means is theres a prop rod that the motor rests on during trailering.dont keep trying to lower the motor when its resting on it.

What I tried was switching the ones there and it still wouldn't go up but went down. So you are saying they are two different part numbers and not interchangeable even though they fit?

If so I need to go buy a new set and install them in the right spots and try that out.

Yes.I bought 2 new ones and installed them backwards not knowing and I had the same issue, the motor wouldnt raise up(or down,I forget, was 2 years ago)

My new 200efi 93 has a tilt switch on the motor also.Does yours have this?

Nevermind,just re-read your first post.lol

Yup it does the same on both switches. So you believe my up solenoid/relay is bad and that'll take care of the issue?

Thanks a lot by the way.

That's okay but at 80 I'll probably only replace the up solenoid rather than both!
