Re: 98 200 EFI Quits Running

I had the same problem and had it in the shop several times with no fix. Check your voltage regulators . If you pull them off, the older ones had a clear resin that you could see through on the back and see burn marks inside them. On mine I kept asking every mechanic I came across what would cause the engine to die like you turned off the key. finally one said the efi's will shut off if you have an under voltage, so I remembered that my Lowrance fish finder had a setting that I could watch the voltage while running and I found that there was an overvoltage, up to 18 Volts and that is when it would shut off. It was very intermittent but I did end up frying my computer and an optima battery before I found out what it was. It is also really inconvenient when you are running up a river in 1 foot of water and it dies. I hope this helps you.

i had the same problem. it was the engine wire harness coming loose. spread the pins a little and used tape to secure the harness. never had that problem again. hope this helps.
