3.0 Mercruiser Inboard/Outboard: Engine cranks immediately. Runs great for as long as I want to run it. As soon as I pull in to the dock and put in neutral, engine shuts off and will not crank (appears flooded--heavy gas smell). Engine turns over, but will not catch. Throttle all the way forward does not work. Waiting 10 minutes, then 20 minutes, then 30 minutes does not work.

The next day, put it back in the water. Cranks immediately...runs great, and then repeats same process.

Thoughts?

Howdy,

Sounds like it's time to adjust/repair the choke or rebuild the carb.

Remove the flame arrester after you start the engine and it warms up and have a look.

Is the choke opening up fully? and/or is there black smoke in the exhaust?

Re: 98 Bayliner 1750 HELP

Ok I think I have the 1st problem fixed. I took it out this morning and it fired right up. Went out for a while. Turn it off a few times and it would fire right back up and idle fine today.

My new problem is that when I go above 30 mph it stall and cuts out and has problems running above 30 mph. Below 30 it is fine. What would the most likely problem be that is causing this to happen. Is it an easy fix? There was some fuel left in it over the winter.

Rebuild the carb! And you better change that oil where do you think the excess fuel is going?
