rk denny,<br /><br />Hello, I asked the same question a while back and I was fortunate to have many replies from wise boaters to help me in my task.<br /><br />your gas gauge is only hooked up to 2 things. one is for light. and then a wire that goes to your sender. the sender is located on top of the gas tank. most of the time it might have a bad ground. -<br /><br />what you do to test is take out the sender. Depending on what type of gas sender you have. you just take the piece with the floater on it and slide it up and down. --- when you do this , just note the gauge to see if the gauge goes up and down with your movement of the floater.<br /><br />this should indicate if you have a good or bad sender. -- <br /><br />senders cost about 20-30 bucks. <br /><br />but the first thing i learned to do was just check the ground and all connections to the gauge. and if it still doesnt work, take out the sender. and test that liek the way i stated above.<br /><br />if that still doesnt work, it could be your gauge. but rarely does gauges mess up. (i could be wrong) a very valid way to test the sender and gauge is with a volt meter.<br /><br />i'm sure many other will reply and help. but thats what I would do first. let us know how it goes
