I have a 1998 Mariner 200 EFI Offsore motor on my boat. I have put a lot of hours on this boat since I bought it last Spring and the engine runs clean and strong.
I tore down the fuel pump and cleaned it last season. I also have replace the hoses and fuel bulb on the engine due to ethanal eating the old hoses.
About 2 weeks ago I started having some Bouging issues where the boat heisatated to accelerate and then with a surge take off and then run smooth at 3000 rpm and plane out.
I emptied the water seperator thinking I had some water in the gas.
Last weekend while taking a trip around NYC The engine just died with no warning. I turned the key it started right up and then about 3 minutes later again died. Again I turned the key and it started right up. This continued any time I had the boat running at speed. I ended up limping my way back 6 + miles and as long as I keep the boat under 7 miles an hour it would stay running.
I got home and I replaced the Water Filter and Gas Filter on the Engine still thinking water issues. I took the boat out last night to and ran from Greenwich to Rye. The engine was able to run at full power but the kill issue happened twice in about 3 miles. It then worked fine the remainder of the night at full power.
When the engine died I checked the Fuel bulb and it was solid, so it seams like I am getting a constant flow of fuel.
I was thinking it might be Electrical where a sensor is killing the engine. But no warning lights or buzzers sounding.
Has anybody ever seen this issue in a Merc/Mariner motor?
