98 merc 75hp starting instructions for newbie

Hi I have a 95 starcraft 17ft with a 98 merc 2 stroke 75 HP motor. Im new to this and need to know the proper steps in starting my boat when cold and when hot? could you give me some help with this. Currently I put it in neutral, push the choke in and crank...takes a while to get it going, when hot and sitting for ten minutes I just crank and it sometimes doesnt catch, I then worry about flooding it on the lake so I try not to choke it, anything im doing wrong

In neutral, lift the throttle lever till you feel you're pulling on the throttle cable, push and hold the "choke" button for a few seconds (it's not really a "choke", it's an enrichener who's dumping fuel in the crankcase by gravity from the top carb bowl), release it ans turn the key. When hot, you could simply turn the key!

These inline 3 really like gas, so there are very hard (read nearly impossible) to flood...
