Hi all.
Boat is a 98 Excel 175 SX, recent purchase. One of the inside hydraulic trim hoses has a leak. Both hoses have been ordered.
I've been prepping to do this job while doing other new-to-me-boat maintenance. I noticed that the engine had been R&R'd at some point and a lot of things were improperly routed when it was put back. LOUSY installer. Among other things, the speedo hose, trim hose, fuel fill hose, and some electrical wiring are all rubbing on the exhaust y-pipe. I can't believe someone would put something back together like that. Needless to say, all that will be corrected.
Anyway, I'm curious about how other boats have their inside trim hoses routed. On this one, they come in through the transom, turn to starboard, go up behind the y-pipe, turn forward and go along along the outboard edge of that pipe, then turn out again to go to the pump.
From what I can see, it would make a LOT more sense to run them straight in through the transom, then under the oil pan, then a turn to starboard, then up and direct to the pump. Eliminates all the routing around the hot exhaust and simplifies the bends.
I'm guessing that the current routing played a major part in the leak, although I haven't seen that part of the hose yet. I'm not going to open the trim system until I have the new hoses in hand.
Can anyone give me an idea of:
1. What the "normal" routing of these hoses is? And
2. Does my routing make sense?
