I am trying to winterize my boat for the first time and I went to a friends house to see how it was down. It was so simple I decided to do it myself.
I bought some ear muffs from West Marine and I hooked up the garden hoze. I ran the engine until it got warmed up. I assume 150 is warmed up. Then I disconnected the hose and ran a piece of hose into a cooler filled with 4 gallons of -100 antifreeze from West Marine. The engine never started sucking up the coolant and out of fear of over heating the engine I shut the engine down when temps got to 170-180.
Now I never had any problems overheating in the summer so I assume the water pump worked fine. So is my thermostat not opening at these temps 170-180 or could it be something else. Do I need to go to west marine and get the container that would run the coolant down thru the ear muffs via gravity?
Thanks.
