So I finally got my motor back together and tested out several times on my local lake and I don’t think I could ask for more. It’s got the 5.0 mpi mercruiser with an alpha one drive running a 17 pitch revolution 4 prop and on the lake it’s topped out at 41 mph at 4700 rpm. At this speed I was getting 18 gallons per hour. How does this compare to what anyone else is running? I have no reference but I think I’m good.

That's 2.2 mpg which is great. My rinker gets about the same but the cruiser only gets about 1.5

Your in the ball park.
I run @ 1.7 mpg at 39 mpg.

Some of the newer 4 stroke outboards are pushing 3+ mpg under similar conditions.

Excellent eh.
I keep banging on about how good mine is on fuel. Also have a 5.0 mpi and even with a cam in her. She will sit at 2200 rpm and 24/25 mph gps cruising. Using about 19/20 litres per hour. Enough to embarrass most Diesels. Especially any diesel with over 260-300 hp at least. Just that diesel is cheaper (also smellier and noisy).
Flat out and wide open throttle at 5000-5150 rpm it uses about 80 litres per hour according to the vessel view, but considering it will be travelling at around mid 60’s...not too bad. Incredible economy at any rate.

Ive found that the most economical rpm is about 2500 rpm. Think she does just a bit over 30 mph at that. This is the speed and rpm that shows the longest range or time left running on the vessel view data.

What prop are you running QBhoy?

I go between a 19” and 21” of various types. Currently running a 19” laser 2 for all round general cruising and towing. Sometimes the excellent enertia, which is a lovely thing and stupid quick. Laser 2 21” and just got rid of a Michigan ballistic too. That was silly quick but pretty useless at anything else and general use.
She did achieve a 66.7 mph gps run with the 21”, but was running light with the canopy off etc. Generally she will run 63-65 gps on average.
Great engines though. Do you have the great vessel view mobile for your engine ? Highly recommend it.

I do have the vessel view on my phone. Pretty handy app. The boat had a 15” pitch quicksilver prop on it when I got it but as soon as I got it running right the motor was running at too high of an rpm. I switched to the 17 revolution 4 and it’s been much better.
