It’s been years since i posted on here. Been buying and selling Outboard’s each summer to have a little fun money.

Been tinkering with this motor and have come into an issue I can’t figure out. Motor only has 250 hours.

I have the Diagnostic software and it seems as if there an oil pressure sensor issue. As it’s hooked up, there’s a constant oil sensor pressure fault.

I can take off the brown wire(think this is the color) on the sensor and ground it, and the light goes off until I raise the rpm, then it creates an active no oil pressure fault.

So this is the dilemma I face. Why would that error code go away when the brown wire is grounded? Should also add I’ve changed out the sensor with no change. When that fault comes on, goes into limp mode limiting rpms to under 3500 or so. Suggestions would be great.

my 75 hp etec 2005 did the same for 8 years since new

code 38 no oil (loss of pressure pulses from the sensor possibly due to air bubbles sent my engine in SAFE mode 1200 rpm max

bad software and pump replaced by BRP on good will :first: paid 1 hour labor only

you may have a similar issue

The motor has been run for over an hour on the muffs so I’d think the system is working since we’ve had it. The original owner couldn’t figure it out either while on the water a few times trying to fix it. Came to us cheap but it really seems this can’t be that hard. I wonder if a software update would be the cure.

you may want to ask the ETEC owner's board … it is not an ETEC per say but from your write-up the problem is similar to code 38 faults.

http://www.etecownersgroup.com/?forum=115573

the EMM looks for PULSING on the oil system…….. openning a sesnor wire or grounding a sensor wire would not produce "pulsing resistance" values to be interpreted by the EMM detection circuit ..

in either condition the EMM sees no variations on the pulse logic and declares a code which drops the engine RPM to a SAFE mode 1200rpm... on a ETEC anyway

the fix on the ETEC EMM software probably made the EMM less sensitive to " the total missing amount of pulses" before declaring a fault. code 38 no oil.

see ETEC clip on code 38 & also check with your dealer for any S/W update cures

fyi you may want to make certain the sensor wire reaches the EMM input point…... directly or via any connectors

if that wire is open or grounded it will fault the "no loil logic" . Open and clean connectors if any along the way

on the 75hp that wire carries 12-13v (engine not running) and drops to 2 v as the oil pressure sensor pulses between open and ground when the engine is running

this would be just a basic but necessary electrical test for pulsing which the software must sense and agree to the results.

BRP does not support Ficht . Check the pressure at oil pump with gauge should be 4psi min. Could be bad pressure regulator on oil line also. What code is it showing in software? Did you prime the oil system?
