Then we decided to paint it. So its now end of summer/start of winter and we just finished painting it...............

Looking good.. im glad to see you decided to do the deck.. what type of wood are you going back with? IMO. 3/4 is overkill and you are just adding wieght.

Re: 99 bayliner 2050

i was thinking of 3/4" ext plywood.(15$ a sheat) because the old floor is 1/2" and even where it was in good shape, it felt a little week. especially over the ski locker. 3/4" might be over kill, but it should make the boat more solid than from the factory.

kartman, I put a 3/4" deck in my previous project. I loved it. It felt very solid. My "new" boat had a 1/2" floor in it when I got it. I assumed it was rotten due to how springy it was. I am currently replacing it with 3/4". Turns out the old floor was actually not that rotted. I think you could get away with a 1/2" if you put a couple layers of glass over it but otherwise I personally prefer a 3/4".

im going to be going with 3/4. and laminating the bow area with 1/4. i should be picking up the wood this weekend. getting it all cut to fit, then in 2 weeks, i should start with the glassing. grinding all the fiberglass down wasnt that bad. i pulled the boat out of the garage to do it. should have pics when i start fitting the new deck.

Just now checking out this thread. Awesome boat at an amazing price! The best part is you practically have a walkthough with 69_bear_cuda's restore, as he had the exact same boat. Making great head way on it. Keep it up!

Re: 99 bayliner 2050

im trying to make it a better boat for water sports. as i cant really afford a $60K boat, and i have a bunch of friends that like to go out with us, the more seating, the better.

I plan on doing something very similar for seating as my boat's focus is water sports.

Great job so far.. One thing I did notice is that in the picture, there was a saws-all and I didn't see any face masks. Fiberglass is nothing to fool with.. Be safe so you will be around to enjoy the work...

trust me 1010, i have charcoal masks for when im grinding or doing a layup. i used to be a composite fabricator for the marine corps. i know all about the nasty world of fiberglass/carbon fiber/Kevlar. when cutting with a sawzall, i use just a basic particle filter mask.

i think its a 23'. im going to do the same without the rear facing seat behind the drivers seat. should be easy to do the bases. i bet it will cost some $$$ to get it all foamed and covered.

It looks like a bowrider to me:confused:. 23 feet is a lot bigger than my boat and the beam must be a lot bigger too?

Re: 99 bayliner 2050

been slacking on the progress. but i have the hull prepped and ready for the wood. just have to vacume up the glass dust, and clean it really good. im going to be picking all the wood up this week for the floor. 2 sheets of 3/4, and a sheet of 1/4, an 8' stick of 2x to hold the tank in again and brace the floor better, along with most of the glass and resin. i need to get this thing rolling of i want to use it in April, that and i have another project to start when it leaves the garage. im going to be building either a ralley car (escort based), or a kit car (still not sure to do either a 23t or a rear engine roadster) But either way, i have to get a move on with the boat or it will be july before i get the boat wet.
