Its the smallest motor they put in the boat so if your gonna load it up with 6 people and go water skiing you may not be to happy<br /><br />Even with a lighter load its a lot of of boat for a 4.3 <br /><br />tommays
Yes, it's underpowered. My 23 footer had a 260hp V8 in it. When the tank was full (90 gals.), six adults with all the junk they took with them the boat was like a slug. Changed to a big block.

One reason why Bayliners sell so cheap. Most of them are marginally powered.<br /><br />But also consider... More HP equals more fuel consumption. There's no free lunch.<br /><br />All Depends on what you want out of boating.
I agree that it is underpowered and I do not agree that the smaller motor would have better fuel economy. For the same speed and properly propped, the bigger motor would run at lower RPM. Fuel economy would not be significantly different.<br /><br />Do you do any boating at higher altitudes?<br /><br />That boat also came with the 5.0L and 5.7L engines. I would get the 5.7L
My bro-in-law has a 2002 2455 Classic bayliner with a carburated V8 and it is definitely under powered. With more than 4 people and gear for the weekend he can't plane without 2 bodies moving to the front of the boat.
Underpowered. I'm guessing the best times on that boat would be sitting in it for the trailer ride home. On the other hand, a 200 horse trolling motor is overkill.
