:eek:i've got a problem and its giving me and my mechanic fits.. traded into this motor, compression is 130+ on all 4, new trigger, stator checked out ok, spark on all 4, carbs were cleaned by mechanic, motor is cooling.. have water pressure guage on it and its pushing 10lbs plus 1st time out it wouldnt hardly run at all, took it in had carbs done, 2nd time out eased through shallow water into the channel and it came out of the hole like a maddog, for about 1/8 mile and died back like it was on half throttle, with throttle all the way down i could push the key in and she'd pick up, then got to where it didnt help after a few minutes.., took it back to mechanic, came to conclusion that the trigger was bad.. ohm'd out way out of spec. then today it would only go half throttle again, now he's thinking it could be the powerpack, got a new one on the way, any input on this one would be greatly appreciated, i'm tired of buying parts! i'm gunna change plugs to NGK in the morning and put on a lower pitch prop for the heck of it, disconnect the t-stats and see what she'll do but ANY help would be appreciated!

I would get the factory service manual and go through it from the top, test all the ignition components per the manual. It don't take long.

Find out whether its fuel or ignition related when its acting up on the water.
Usually pumping the key points to fuel delivery.
A timing light would show whether its dropping a cylinder.
A portable tank with new fuel line and bulb will help eliminate the onboard fuel system for a test.

Some basic tools, compression guage, spark gap tester , timing light etc can all be had with the factory manual for less than $100 total.

do not use NGK plugs, the motor was designed to run with Champions.
120, 130, 135, 140 (90? V4 Looper) 1994 - 2001 QL78YC .030
as said, retest, carbs can be cleaned and crud in the fuel line can reclog them in minutes. do you have a fuel/water separator.

push the key in, and it picking up, indicates a fuel delivery problem.
