Engine is "99 Volvo 5.0 GL PBYC, BID ignition, bought new coil from Volvo dealer, coil has no internal resistance, was told by dealer with ignition key on, I should have 12 volts at + coil terminal and ground to block, getting 9.30- 9.45 volts. Battery at 12.30 volts, Coil primary and secondary windings are in specs, any ideas? Sounding like a 3 volt drop is from a built in resister? Ok to run engine? Concerned about coil and or ignition module damage.

The 12+ feed shows ~9 volts? Sounds like a poor connection / high resisistmwce somewhere.

Yep...need to check all your connections back all the way to the ignition switch including the engine connector and the man overboard switch. You should be reading close to battery voltage.
