I have a 1999 VP 5.0GL with just over a thousand hours on it and last time out it seemed like boat was slightly under powered. But boat was heavily loaded and it was rough so I didn't do a WOT run to check max RPMs . It had been about 175hrs since I tuned it so I figured it was due for a tune up (cap, rotor, fuel filter and plugs). I always check and record compression numbers and motor has been ~170psi every time in the past. This time they were 140-150 using same gauge and procedure ) I haven't splashed it yet since the tune, just curious what other pros think about the decreased compression numbers, should i start saving for a long block? Engine removal will be challenging ,it is raw water cooled and used 100% in salt so I will buy a new long block opposed to messing with it when it finally gives up the ghost.
