Hi all. I just bought a 1995 Crownline 210 CCR. Overall, its in good shape:) except for the rear seats needing to be re-covered:(. It originally had a 5.0l mercruiser but now has a 2004 5.7l and rebuilt alpha one outdrive.
1st... The previous owner does not have the owners manual. Where can i find one?
2nd... The lexan doors into the cabin have a couple breaks in them and i would like to replace them with o/e doors. I have been unable to find anyone with them. No local dealers aound. Where should i look?
3rd... The outdrive had a 21 pitch prop on it. Struggled to the point of just not getting on plane with a load on it so i dropped to a 19 pitch. That helped but it still seems lacking ooooomph. Can a "fin" on the cav plate help or will it rob top end.

Thanks for any information,
T B

No stinkin' fins! Sounds as if you're new to boating, maybe a bit more experimenting with the power trim is in order. If that doesn't resolve things, tabs are in order. Smart tabs are commonly used for boats of your size and are relatively inexpensive. For the best control, hydraulic Bennetts are the answer. I've had no luck getting a replacement plexi hatch cover for my Carver for the same reasons you cite, and having one fabbed is horribly expensive if you can find someone to do it. (let me know if you do!) But again, NO STINKIN FINS! Nothing but problems down that road for a boat like yours.

You need the engine checked and to make sure the throttle is opening all the way.

That puppy should be leaping out of the water and there absolutely should be no discussion of trim tabs at this point -- period. Fin on cavitation plate = No.... and unrelated to power issue in all cases.

5.7 liters should be whipping that boat around... meaning it jumps on plane and scoots to max RPM range rather comfortably. When this happens, you won't even imagine why trim tabs are ever needed.

We need to hear the top speed and the RPM at that top speed when the throttle is wide open. These are 'musts'.

Right now, it seems to have power issues... and it could be a host of things.

Boat owner's manuals are pretty generic, although they have some general boat safety and operating stuff that could be useful I guess. Boats aren't like cars, each separate component (engine, outdrive, instruments, bilge pump, blower, depthfinder, radio, etc, etc) will have it's own manual. The original manuals that came with my boat barely fit in one of those accordian file folders about 4 inches thick.

You can get the Crownline owners manual (2007, I think) here, I doubt if trying to track down any of the others are worth worrying about:

What you really need are the Factory Service Manuals for your motor and outdrive. Go here and download #14 for your outdrive and #31 for your motor:

Not much chance of finding those. Are they just flat Lexan? If possible, best bet would be to cut your own out and just bolt on your old hardware.

You should have plenty of power for that boat if the motor is running right. Get someone competent to check compression, timing, throttle adjustment, shift cable adjustment, etc (using the factory manuals above). You'll find that LOTS of boat engine swaps are done by people who don't fully understand what they're doing, so things never quite work right. If compression is OK and it hasn't already been done, do a complete tune up including cap, plugs, wires, fuel filters, etc. At least that way you know you have a good baseline to start working from.

Roger... No Fins. The motor does open up fairly well. It tops out around 4400 rpm (if the tach is correct) and runs very smooth. It just doesn't have the "jump" that my 18' fish-n-ski does. Of course the Crownline weighs ALOT more, is wider and longer. I'm not too new to boating, this is my third boat in 3 years but i'm no expert by any means and any advice is helpful. I will be doing a tune up and compression check this weekend to see if any of that helps.

As far as the door, there is a glass and plastics fabrication shop down the street from my work that can do what i need. I'm more concerned with putting the appropriate locking mechanisms and latched back on it because it looks to be missing a couple of pieces.

My speedo doesn't work either. I know the process for checking the tube (disconnect @ speedo and blow air thru) but where is the intake for the tube? I think it is in the outdrive somewhere because i don't see anything coming from the bottom of the boat that would connect to the tube (like with aftermarket speedo's).

THanks again...

Re: !995 Crownline 210 CCR Q's looking for A's...

My 18' Chappy with a 2-stroke Evinrude 115 HP felt much more responsive and always 'leaped' faster than a Baja with a 454 I had and numerous other boats that had big, 4-stroke engines.

2-strokers just light up instantly. Smaller boats sometimes have excellent 'jump out of the water' abilities.

So, if the 18' boat had decent power and a 2-stroker, it might be tough to judge a V8 against it. The 350 cubic inch V8 may actually feel a bit more sluggish and it isn't surprising and not broken. Instead of leaping to the show with revs galore, she's pulling via torque and gearing. Feels different for sure.
